  • Schoelcher Library
    • Open to all, the Schoelcher Library is located in Fort-de-France and offers a rich collection of about 130,000 works, including a wide selection of Caribbean works.
  • Creator : Pierre-Henri Pick
    • Pierre-Henri Pick was born in Paris and lived in Martinique from 1890. His works are oriented by eclecticism, a mixture of Byzantine, Egyptian, and metallic structures.
  • Donor : Victor Schoelcher
    • Member of Parliament for Martinique and Guadeloupe between 1848 and 1850, campaigner for abolitionism, Victor Schoelcher bequeathed 10,000 books and 250 musical works, most of which were destroyed by the fire at Fort de France in 1890 and the cyclone in 1891.
  • Date of Construction : 1887
    • Built in France between 1886 and 1887, it was dismantled, transported by boat and then rebuilt in Martinique. It opens its doors in 1893.
